Our Homestead Hybrids line of hatching eggs stemmed from breeding our best Barnevelder and Rhode Island Red hens to young Bielefelder roosters.\u00a0 These hens have survived and continued laying for 4 to 5 years proving that they are disease resistant; predator savvy; hot and cold weather tolerant; and good egg producers.<\/p>\n
The result is an excellent dual purpose utility chicken that will produce many large eggs for years to come and has a large, meaty carcass.<\/p>\n
Quick Start Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n Have your egg incubator pre-heated and ready to go.\u00a0 Leave the eggs with the big end up for 24 hours before placing in the incubator.\u00a0 For the first 18 days, the temperature needs to be 99.5 degrees F and 50% humidity with the egg turner engaged.\u00a0 At day 19, disengage the egg turner, open the vent full, and increase humidity to 70%.\u00a0 The rate of hatch can vary depending upon your conditions and can range from 50% to 100%.<\/p>\n Hatching takes place at days 21 – 24.\u00a0 Chicks can remain in the incubator for up to 24 hours.\u00a0 Do not open the incubator until all of the hatched chicks are dry.\u00a0 Place them in a brooder pre-heated to 90 F to 95 F.\u00a0 If they are bunched together, they are too cold.\u00a0 If they gather around the sides or panting, they are too hot.\u00a0 If they are randomly spread about, they are just right.
