This unique space is a timber framed, sod roof, strawbale house nestled along the edge of Upper Cow Creek in the Umpqua National Forest. Inspired by our great, great grandparents’ home on the range, Dad designed and built this from Douglas Fir logs harvested here on site and finished with clay from the back pond. Insulated with strawbales, it is energy efficient and requires nothing more than a little wood stove for heat and it stays naturally cool during the summer months.
We operate a regenerative farm where we nurture the land to produce feed, food, and fuel through rotational grazing, permaculture, and pasture cropping. We offer many hands-on activities for you to develop new skills or harvest your groceries for a meal. If you prefer to keep it low key, you can lounge around the creek bank or wade in the shallow pools a few steps away. We also have lawn games including croquet and Bocce ball.
